2019: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam inaugurated a
cancer screening programme for the cleaners of the city corporation at a
community center in the capital’s Mirpur on Wednesday.
The city corporation and the Anwer Khan Modern Medical
College Hospital have arranged the free cancer screening for 400 cleaners.
Addressing the programme, the mayor said, “Our cleaners keep
our city clean. Sound health of the cleaners is a must to enhance their work
spirit. Non-government organisations can come forward for the development of
their life standard and the fulfillment of their fundamental rights, including
medication and insurance.”
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed me to build houses
for the cleansers. Following the direction, we have already started building
multistoried apartments and schools in Gabtoli,” he said.
Mayor Atiqul urged the cleaners to carry out their duties
with sincerity. Ward councilor Abu
Taher, reserved seat ward councilor Razia Sultana Eti, chief waste management
officer Captain Md Manzur Hossain and Brig General Mominur Rahman Mamun, among
others, attended the inaugural ceremony.
