Health Desk-28 Nov,
2019: The European Union is allocating 140,000 euros (around Tk 1.32 crore)
to provide humanitarian assistance to families affected by cyclone Bulbul that
struck many parts of the southern Bangladesh in early November.
The aid will directly benefit 17,500 people in some of the
hardest-hit areas in the districts of Barguna, Bhola, Pirojpur, Bagerhat,
Khulna and Satkhira, according to a statement by the EU delegation in Dhaka on Wednesday.
This funding supports Bangladesh Red Crescent Society in
delivering much-needed assistance through distribution of dry food items and
shelter materials, such as tarpaulins and blankets, to those who have lost
their homes and belongings.
More than 720,000 people were affected when Bulbul ripped
through the southern region on November 10.
An estimated 110,000 houses sustained damage, while nearly
118,000 hectares of croplands and numerous fish enclosures -- the main source
of livelihoods for many -- were ravaged.
