2020: Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday said
community vision center will be set up in all districts throughout the country
in a bid to ensure health services for all people by 2020.
“Eye care center will be set up through Community Vision
Centre in 64 districts in 2020 and doctors will also be appointed,” he said.
The health minister made the statements at a views-exchange
meeting marking Bangladesh National Council for the Blind (BNCB) 2020 organised
by National Eye Care at a city hotel in the capital.
Presenting a statistics, the minister said at present there
are 7.5 lakh blind people in Bangladesh. “The number of people infected with
other problems of eyes is more than 60 lakh,” he added.
Zahid Maleque said diabetes among people has been increasing
for not doing physical exercises while the number of people and children with
eye problems has also been rising.
The health and family welfare ministry has taken third
operation plan for 2017-2022 for eye care of the country’s people.
Chaired by Prof Abul Kalam Azad, Director General of
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the programme was also addressed
by Ashadul Islam, secretary of health services division of the health ministry,
Professor Dr Syed Modasser Ali, Community Clinic Health Support Trust Chairman
at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr AHM Enayet Hossain, Director
General of Medical Education Directorate and Prof. Dr. Golam Mostafa, Director
of National Institute of Ophthalmology (NIO).
