2020: International Women’s Day is being observed on 8th March
Monday in the country and elsewhere in the world with a call to ensure women’s
rights.
To mark the day, different socio-cultural organisations are
organising programmes focusing on women’s rights and progress made by them in
the economic, social, political and other areas.
This year’s theme for the day is “I am Generation Equality:
Realizing Women’s Rights.”
President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
issued separate messages marking the day, greeting all women across the world.
“The benefits of gender equality are not just for women and
girls, but “for everyone whose lives will be changed by a fairer world,” the
chief of UN Women said in her message for International Women’s Day (IWD) at UN
Headquarters on Friday, being celebrated in New York, ahead of the official
day.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and all other
private television channels are airing special programme while newspapers also
published supplements highlighting the significance of the day.
International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8
every year. It is a focal point in the movement for women’s rights.
