None infected with coronavirus yet: IEDCR


Health Desk- 13 Feb, 2020: The health directorate on Wednesday said no novel coronavirus, newly named as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), case was detected in the country till Wednesday.  
“No person infected with COVID 19 has been detected yet in Bangladesh. Though a suspect was admitted to a hospital of Dhaka, the virus was not found after the test of his samples,” said Prof Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora, Director of the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).         
She disclosed the latest update on the virus while addressing a press briefing at the IEDCR.
Sabrina Flora also said the World Health Organisation (WHO) has named officially the coronavirus as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Abul Kalam Azad held a meeting with owners of private hospitals on Wednesday and directed them to open separate unit in their hospitals immediately for COVID-19 treatment, if necessary.
The owners of the private hospitals agreed on the directives and sought cooperation of the government in this regard.
According to the IEDCR, it has received 1358 calls for inquiry over the virus. So far, some 59 have gone through tests. But, no one has been diagnosed with the virus yet.
The government has decided to put passengers coming from China or those who had visited China in the last 14 days under quarantine.
