Health Desk-29th Feb,
2020: Twenty five percent children are suffering from heart diseases in the
country. Most of them are from poor families.
“You’ll be surprised to know that 25 percent children are
suffering from heart disease. Most of them are from poor families,” Brig Gen
Dr. Nurun Nahar Begum, head of the department of paediatric cardiology at the
Combined Medical Hospital (CMH), said on Friday.
The physician said this at a seminar on ‘Little Heart
Project’ organised by the Department of Cardiac Surgery of Ibrahim Cardiac
Hospital & Research Institute in the capital on Friday.
Bashundhara Group and Muntada Aid UK are the major partners
of the humanitarian project.
“Every day the poor children come to my chamber and I treat
them.
That’s why we have to increase the fund. Government also
gives us Tk50,000 per child.
“No hospital or medical centre is interested for treatment
of the poor people. When the poor people come to us, we send them to
Bashundhara Group and Muntada Aid for help,” said Dr. Mohammad Rokonujjaman
Selim, senior consultant at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital & Research Institute.
