স্বাস্থ্য ডেস্ক- ০৩ জানু’২০: সর্বকালের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ বাঙ্গালী জাতির জনকের কন্যা ডিজিটাল বাংলাদেশের যে স্বপ্ন দেখিয়েছিলেন, সেটি এখন বাস্তবে রুপ নিয়েছে। সরকারের স্বাস্থ্য সেক্টরে ভিসন ২১-২১ বাস্তবায়ন সমাপ্ত করেছে ২৫০ শয্যা বিশিষ্ট টিবি হাসপাতাল।

এই হাসপাতালের অধীনে একটি ইনফরমেশন সিস্টেম বিভাগ প্রতিষ্ঠা করা হয়েছে এবং স্বাস্থ্য তথ্য সিস্টেম (এইচআইএস) এর বিকাশ এবং রোগীদের ই-স্বাস্থ্য রেকর্ড তৈরির জন্য বিভিন্ন কার্যক্রম শুরু করা হয়েছে। ডিজিটাল বাংলাদেশের ই-সেবা নিশ্চিত করণে হাসপাতাল প্রাঙ্গনে Passive Optical Fiber Local Area Network এবং Application Data Center স্থাপন করা হয়েছে। যার মাধ্যমে শুরু হয়েছে ই-টিকেট, ই-প্রেশক্রিপশন, ই-টেন্ডার, ই-রেন্ট।

হাসপাতালের সকল কার্যক্রম ক্লোজ সাকিট ক্যামেরায় মনিটরিং করা হয়। ই-স্বাস্থ্য রেকর্ডগুলি রোগির জন্য নির্ভরযোগ্য, সুরক্ষিত এবং বিশ্বাসযোগ্য। এটি রোগীদের দক্ষ এবং কার্যকর চিকিৎসার মান উন্নত করে। উদাহরণস্বরূপ, বেশিরভাগ সময় রোগিরা তাদের স্বাস্থ্যের ইতিহাস যেমন: মেডিসিন ডাক্তারের সাথে শেষ অ্যাপয়েন্টমেন্টের তারিখ সহ সর্বশেষ পরীক্ষার রেকর্ডগুলির তারিখ ভুলে যায়। এছাড়াও ভ্রমণের সময় লোকেরা তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে অসুস্থ হতে পারে। সাধারণত: এমতাবস্থায় কেউ তাদের সাথে চিকিৎসার রেকর্ড বহন করেন না। এই পরিস্থিতিতে, কখনও কখনও চিকিৎসক এবং স্বাস্থ্যসেবা দানকারিদের পূর্ববর্তী স্বাস্থ্য ইতিহাস পর্যবেক্ষণ না করে অবিলম্বে সঠিক চিকিৎসা সরবরাহ করা কঠিন হয়ে পড়ে। তাই, যদি ই-হেলথ রেকর্ড পাওয়া যায়, স্বাস্থ্য চিকিৎসকগণ ই-স্বাস্থ্য রেকর্ডগুলির সাথে সংযোগ করতে পারেন এবং রোগির স্বাস্থ্য সম্পর্কিত তথ্য দেখতে পারেন।

বর্তমান সরকার ২০২১ সালের মধ্যে একটি ডিজিটাল বাংলাদেশ প্রতিষ্ঠা করতে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ। স্বাস্থ্য ব্যবস্থাগুলির ডিজিটালাইজেশনের জন্য ই-স্বাস্থ্য রেকর্ড চালু করার সময় এসেছে যা রোগীদের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত করার পাশাপাশি বাংলাদেশে স্বাস্থ্যসেবার মান বাড়িয়ে তুলবে ।

২৫০ শয্যা বিশিষ্ট টিবি হাসপাতালের এই ডিজিটাল সেবা বাংলাদেশে সর্বপ্রথম। ২০১৭ সালের ১লা জানুয়ারি থেকে হাসপাতালের বহিঃ বিভাগের পাশাপাশি আন্তঃ বিভাগ কর্মক্রাম শুরু হয় এবং বহিঃ বিভাগের কার্যক্রম সম্প্রসারিত হয়। চালু হয় ২৪ ঘন্টা জরুরী সেবা। ল্যাবরেটরীর কার্যক্রমও বর্ধিত হতে থাকে।

বর্তমান উপ-পরিচালক সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ডা. মোঃ আবু রায়হান এর যোগ্য নেতৃত্বে অনেক প্রতিকুল পরিবেশ মোকাবেলা করে, জাতির জনকের কন্যা জনগনকে ডিজিটাল স্বাস্থ্যসেবার যে ওয়াদা করেছিলেন, তা বাস্তবায়ন করেছে ২৫০ শয্যা টিবি হাসপতাল শ্যামলী।

এখানে প্রতিদিন নতুন পুরাতন মিলিয়ে বহিঃ বিভাগে চিকিৎসা নিতে আসেন চার শতাধিক রোগি। রয়েছে আলাদা এ্যাজমা ও সি.ও.পি.ডি সেন্টার, সেখানে বক্ষব্যাধি বিশেষজ্ঞ চিকিৎসক চিকিৎসা প্রদান করেন। টিবি রোগীর পাশাপাশি অন্যান্য বক্ষব্যাধি রোগেরও চিকিৎসা দেয়া হয়। টিবি রোগে আক্রান্ত প্রসুতি ও গাইনী রোগীদের চিকিৎসায় আছেন বিশেষজ্ঞ গাইনী ও প্রসূতি চিকিৎসক।

আন্তঃ বিভাগে বর্তমান ১৩০ জনের বেশি রোগী ভর্তি আছেন। আন্তঃ বিভাগে যক্ষামুক্ত ও যক্ষাযুক্ত আলাদা পুরুষ ও মহিলা ওয়ার্ড, এসি এবং নন এসি কেবিন আছে। এইচডিইউ কার্যক্রম পূর্ণভাবে আইসিইউ কার্যক্রম আংশিকভাবে চালু হয়েছে এবং পূর্ণাঙ্গ আইসিইউ প্রতিষ্ঠার কার্যক্রম অব্যাহত রয়েছে।

সরকার নির্ধারিত মূল্যে রোগীদের জন্য চালু রয়েছে অনেক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পরীক্ষা-নিরীক্ষা। যেমন- ১. ফাইবার অপটিক ব্রোঙ্কোস্কপি। ২. স্পাইরোমেট্রি। ৩. এক্সরে, ইসিজি, ৪ডি আলট্রাসনোগ্রাম। ৪. কফ পরীক্ষা, জিন এক্সপার্ট পরীক্ষা। ৫. প্যাথলজীক্যাল ও বায়োক্যামিস্ট্রি সহ আরো অনেক পরীক্ষা। ৬. সিটি স্ক্যান ও ব্লাড  ট্রান্সফার কার্যক্রম অচিরেই শুরু হবে। রোগীদের সুবিধার্থে বয়েছে অনুসন্ধান কেন্দ্র, বিশুদ্ধ পানির সুব্যবস্থা, সেবা সম্পর্কিত অডিও এনাউন্সমেন্ট, রোগীদের মোটিভেশনের জন্য রয়েছে আলাদা মোটিভেশন রুম ও অডিও ভিডিও ডিসপ্লে। আরও রয়েছে দুস্থ রোগীদের জন্য সমাজ কল্যাণ সেবা সুবিধা।

এভাবেই সুদক্ষ মেধাবী ও সুযোগ্য উপ পরিচালক সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ডা. মোঃ আবু রায়হান এর নেতৃত্বেই প্রতিদিন উন্নয়নের পথে একটু একটু করে হেঁটে বক্ষব্যাধি হাসপাতাল হিসেবে উন্নয়নের রোল মডেলে পরিনত হচ্ছে এই ২৫০ শয্যা বিশিষ্ট টিবি হাসপাতাল।

Scrap 'quick-fix diets and tea-toxes' this New Year

Health Desk -03 Jan 2020: If your New Year resolution is to lose some weight, avoid fad diets, because they don't work and can be harmful, says NHS England's top doctor.

Diet pills, "tea-toxes" and appetite suppressant products are no quick fix, says Prof Stephen Powis, NHS medical director.

Products making this claim can have side-effects, including diarrhoea and heart issues, he warns.

Getting in shape safely takes time and requires eating sensibly, and exercise.

As the public gets ready for New Year's Eve, Prof Powis also warned of the dangers of "party drips" or quick fix hangover cures.

Last year, model Kendall Jenner was hospitalised following a bad reaction to a nutrient therapy IV drip, made up of saline solution, magnesium, calcium, B vitamins and vitamin C.

In extreme cases, regularly resorting to drips for hangover cures can cause nausea, liver damage, or death due to a toxic overdose of vitamin A.

Rangpur Medical College doctor sent to jail

Health Desk -03 Jan 2020: A doctor of Rangpur Medical College (RMC) was sent to jail on Wednesday after a court rejected his bail prayer in a Tk 4.48 crore corruption case.

Judge Rasheda Sultana of senior special judge’s court in Rangpur gave the order after Dr Sarowat Hossain, an assistant professor of community medicine at RMC, surrendered before it in the afternoon, confirmed Harun Ur Rashid, a lawyer for Anti-Corruption Commission in Rangpur.

College Principal Dr Nur Islam, another accused in the case, has been in Rangpur jail since November 26 last year.

ACC Deputy Assistant Director Ferdous Rahman filed the case on September 12, 2019, accusing six persons for embezzling Tk 4.48 crore by preparing false documents to procure medical equipment for the college in June 2018.

The work order was issued only two days after the bidder was picked and the bill worth Tk 4.48 crore was collected in just 10 days, he added.

HC orders action against cancer hospital director

Health Desk -03 Jan 2020: The High Court on Thursday ordered the government to with-hold retirement benefits of Md Moarraf Hossen, outgoing director of the National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital (NICRH), for not installing life support equipment in the facility’s Intensive Care Equipment (ICU).

The High Court has questioned the legality of non-installation of life support equipment in the ICU of the government-run cancer hospital.

A division bench comprising of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order on Thursday following a newspaper report.

Many critical patients are deprived of proper treatment for lack of life support facility at the ICU of NICRH.

The High Court issued the rule asking the government to explain why negligence in installing life support equipment in the NICRH shall not be declared illegal.

The health secretary will have to submit a probe report on the matter within a month.

Mentionable, about 1,08,000 cancer patients die every year in Bangladesh, says a report published by an international cancer research agency. In Bangladesh the only hospital for poor cancer patients is NICRH.

AI 'outperforms' doctors diagnosing breast cancer

Health Desk- 02 Jan 2020: Artificial intelligence is more accurate than doctors in diagnosing breast cancer from mammograms, a study in the journal Nature suggests.

An international team, including researchers from Google Health and Imperial College London, designed and trained a computer model on X-ray images from nearly 29,000 women.

The algorithm outperformed six radiologists in reading mammograms.

AI was still as good as two doctors working together.

Unlike humans, AI is tireless. Experts say it could improve detection.

The current system in the NHS uses two radiologists to analyse each woman's X-rays. In rare cases where they disagree, a third doctor assesses the images.

In the research study, an AI model was given anonymised images, so that the women could not be identified. Unlike the human experts, who had access to the patient's history, AI had only the mammograms to go on.

The results showed that the AI model was as good as the current double-reading system of two doctors.

And it was actually superior at spotting cancer than a single doctor.

Compared to one radiologist, there was a reduction of 1.2% in false positives, when a mammogram is incorrectly diagnosed as abnormal.

7 new dengue patients hospitalized across country

Health Desk- 2 Jan 2020: Seven new dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours till 8am on Wednesday, reports UNB.

Three of them were hospitalised in Dhaka, the Directorate General of Health Services said in its regular update.

Bangladesh was hit by a massive outbreak of the mosquito-borne disease last year. DGHS said 1,01,354 people were hospitalised with dengue in the country between January and December. Of them, 1,01,037 made full recovery.

The huge number of patients put a severe strain on the country’s outstretched medical system while the failure to contain the outbreak triggered widespread criticism.

2.71 lac to be fed Vit A+ capsules in Khulna

Health Desk- 1st Jan 2020: Khulna Civil Surgeon office has completed all preparations to immunise over 2.71-lac children aged between six months and 59 months with Vitamin A plus capsules during the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign on January 11.

Khulna Civil Surgeon office disclosed the information on Monday at a district level advocacy and planning meeting held at the conference room of Khulna School Health Clinic to make the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign-2020 a success.

The campaign will be conducted under the auspices of the Public Health and Nutrition Institute and National Nutrition Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Planning with UNICEF assistances, reports BSS.
